This is skiing on your doorstep. We are the closest motel to Mt Dobson ski area with a driving time of 30 minutes between our carpark and the skifield carpark. Mt Dobson ski area boasts all day sunshine and prides itself on offering a fun skiing and snowboarding experience for all ages.
Lake Opuha
Only 10 minutes drive
Lake Opuha is a man made lake with an island in the middle and is very popular for fishing and boating. There are picnic areas and public toilets available. There are rumours of a Mid Winter polar plunge at dawn on mid winter’s day.
Lake Tekapo

Lake Tekapo’s scenery is breathtaking – it’s the combination of the turquoise lake, the exquisite Church of the Good Shepherd, snow-capped Southern Alps and the clear air, which is reputed to be the clearest air in the Southern Hemisphere. Lake Tekapo is an easy 25 minute drive away from our motel.
Aoraki/Mount Cook

Framed by rugged, stunning mountainscapes, Aoraki/Mount Cook Village is perfectly positioned to take advantage of some very spectacular scenery. The nearby Tasman Terminal Lake with its huge icebergs is an easy 1.5 hour drive away from Mt Dobson Motel.

If you arrive in Timaru when the sun is shining, it probably won’t be long before you are heading down to Caroline Bay. Holiday makers have been flocking to this beach for over 100 years; it is one of New Zealands safest swimming beaches and has plenty of other attractions including a maze, mini-golf, aviary, children’s paddling pool, playground and of course the famous Caroline Bay Christmas carnival.
