The Gladstone Hotel

Traditional pub which has a restaurant and takeaways (Tuesday – Sunday) from 5pm. Children’s menu available. Prices range from $10 – $33 dine in. Vegan and gluten free options available on request. Call 03 685 8140 to book.

The Fairlie Museum

Open daily. Charges apply for adults, children free. The museum has great range of items from the region. The vehicle collection includes a tank. There is a display with the history of the Hamilton jet boat. Bill Hamilton did his early research for the jet boat on the Opihi River, which runs behind the motel.

There are a wide range of small shops including JRs General Store which is well worth a visit. Also men and women’s street clothing shops, gift shops and a patchwork shop.

Fairlie to Kimbell Central South Trail

The trail provides a great off highway option for those walking or cycling between the towns.

The trail section was officially opened on Sunday 10 September by Mackenzie District Mayor Anne Munro.

In time, the trail is planned to extend further west towards Burkes Pass, and will eventually link up with the Lake Tekapo-Twizel section of the Alps 2 Ocean Cycle Trail.

Mountain Biking

There are a range of scary mountain bike trails near Raincliff, access from Middle Valley Road

Gem Alpacas

There is currently an alpaca farm and shop on the Kimbell side of Fairlie. It’s fun watching the animals queue up for a dust bath on hot days.

Skate Park

There is a new skate park in the middle of Fairlie, on the Village Green.

Children’s playgrounds

One playground is also on the village green, the other is on the Domain (near the campground)

Supermarket

Fairlie only has a Four Square supermarket, open seven days, 8am – 7pm. Outside these hours you can get limited supplies from the gas stations.

Fuel

There are two gas stations on the main road – a BP and a Caltex. There is also a 24 hour self service station on State Highway 79. An EV fast charger is opposite the Gladstone Hotel.
